Liturgical Ministries
Lectors
The Lector Ministry provides a service to the parish community by proclaiming the Word of God through the readings at Mass. The Lector can do much to enhance the celebration of the liturgy through careful and prayerful proclamation of the Word, which can touch and move the assembly. Lectors also offer petitions. This ministry is open to all practicing Catholics. Training is available to help individuals become familiar with the procedures, as well as to provide hints on proper delivery, pacing, and emphasis. Involvement in this ministry helps members of our community grow in their appreciation for and understanding of Scripture. By proclaiming God's Word, ministers help the Holy Spirit speak to the hearts of those at Mass. Hispanic Ministries
We provide a Liturgy in Spanish for area residents twice a month, the first and third Sundays at 5 pm and prepare candidates, parents, and sponsors for the reception of sacraments. We also offer assistance to local residents with translations as needed and assistance in negotiating necessary paperwork and with difficult situations. Annual special celebrations of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Las Posadas are held in December. It is our mission to offer the opportunity for our local Catholic Hispanics to practice their faith, to be integrated into the larger Catholic community and to help them become participants in the larger community.
Father Ed Gearhart and Father Samuel Gonzalez preside at the two celebrations of Mass each month, hear confessions, and prepare parents and sponsors for Baptism. Quincaneras are celebrated for those young ladies turning 15. Roberto Alcantar and Orlando Martinez lead the Mass Choir. Orlando Martinez is also the catechist for those preparing for first Holy Communion as well as preparation for their parents. English is offered as a second language. Mass is currently scheduled at 5 pm on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month.
Baptisim preparation is by appointment and First Holy Communion preparation is by appointment and as scheduled for the group. Las Mananitas, the morning prayer for December 12th, and Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass is celebrated on December 12th. Las Posadas, preparation for Christmas is scheduled on the closest Sunday.
